The directory for PC-Basic contains about 28MB of files and taskmanager is showing This is nothing on my computer with over 1TB of storage and 16GB for RAM, but it still amazes me when I consider that the GW-BASIC took 70KB. It ran on top of MS-DOS that I think took about 50KB.

Reply from PC-BASIC - a GW-BASIC emulator Posted 1 PC-BASIC is written on top of Python, and your 28MB package basically includes a full Python distribution plus a number of third party libraries and a whole lot of other crud that may or may not be necessary for it to run. GW-BASIC was directly coded in machine code for thewith a lot of time spent on optimising code so it fit into very restricted memory.
If you were to rewrite this thing in C and compile you would get something much closer to that, though probably not quite as small. PC-BASIC tries to match this undocumented behaviour exactly, which requires a lot of workarounds as the original intention or underlying structure is unknown. PC-BASIC is a project run by a single volunteer, who is not a professional programmer, in his scarce spare time.
Does this explain it a bit? jegsav Posted Discovered a, for me, fatal flaw - it doesn't handle DEF FNname correctly - at least not for program "RUNGE" I typed in from "Orbit Determinations" by Dan Boulet. Exactly the same program runs OK matches book's sample output and parallel Java program I wrote to help debug using GWBASIC but PC-BASIC needed to inline DEF FN functions.
Dare say OK for simple games, but not when you really need a pukka Basic interpreter.
